[Velo's journal is a bit out of the ordinary compared to the others in her little group, though only because she got bored and went a little extra in customizing it. Scrap metal has been filed down, reshaped, and embedded into the leather binding in order to form her name in Draconic. It looked almost like calligraphy; rusty, somewhat misshapen calligraphy. The spine, too, has been reinforced with scrap metal filigree, partly to help hold it together in the trying Wastes, and partly because it looks cool.]

[The only thing not metal or leather is a single line written on the bottom of the front cover:]

Notes, Ideas, Recounts, Vol I

To think, two months ago I was just an engineer at an empire work camp in the middle of nowhere. Now, I'm still in the middle of nowhere, but I'm free, and I can command laws of magic and physics to my whim. Mostly. It's a work in progress.

That sounds weird now that it's written out, but I'll explain that later, possibly on the way back. As for now, I and a band of strange misfits have piled into a car and are currently on our way out to some lost temple to find... things. Best to go over them one at a time.

THING 1: Whatever Tetra's After.
After that whole mess that was the Stormcrusher Massac "Party", we learned that the Boss Bitch of Butcher Bay Tetra is after two things: something in the mines below the city, and something waaaaay out in the Wastes. Or, she should be after the latter, had we not intercepted the report. We don't want Tetra to have it, so we're leaving the others from the Rusty Golem, as well as the Waywright couple, to stall operations at the mine while we go out and find whatever those scouts found.

THING 2: The Book.
Right before we head out, Varis got a summons from Portia, the resident... God? Force of nature? Omniscient Abomination? Whatever she is, Varis and Ian were right scared of her and decided to answer, bringing the rest of us along. I can see why they were scared; even standing in her presence felt Wrong, but I get the feeling that she's more of a neutral party than an evil force. Ether way, she requested we find a book at the Temple we were headed for (She called it a pilgrimage location. Might come in handy). The book is bound in sheepskin and has some strange, elaborate symbol on the front. Were were asked to find it, don't open it, don't listen to it, and bring it back. I admit, I'm curious as to what it is, but if this all-powerful being has to resort to asking us to get it for her instead of getting it herself? Best to do the job as stated. Note to self: Ask why she couldn't get the book herself once we return.

THING 3: Orichalcum.
Gorudak made a smithy friend, and after the group bought up half the store, the blacksmith asked us to find some Orichalcum out in the Wastes past the storm wall. Out of everything, I have a feeling this will be the easiest to find. I'll just keep my eye out the window once we're on the other side.

So that's the job we're on right now.

To be constructed and tested when possible. Will keep an eye out for scrap metal.

[This page is filled with various sketches and ideas.]

We made it to and past the storm wall. There was a break in it, almost as if something had cut out an entire section of it. There was only a half-hour of driving before we emerged, but it was agonizing. I don't know whether or not it is due to my control of magic, but I could feel the storm. Every chaotic ebb and flow, the looks from all the faces in the wall... I felt as if I could lose control of myself at any moment and blow up the car and everyone in it, or worse. Almost threw up twice, but managed to hold it in. I don't think anyone noticed, though. Either there was a conversation going on or everyone else was feeling just a little of what I was. I don't look forward to going back through that.

On the other side, we encountered a town. There was some debate on whether or not to stop there, but we decided for it, in order to try and get some more direction and stretch out legs for a bit. That, and I was interested in that scrapyard I saw. I might have been able to find something useful there, if it weren't for everything that happened.

We ended up causing some trouble by giving water to a kid in the middle of town, causing everyone to come out of the woodwork in order to take it for themselves. It wasn't until an old lady came in to break things up with a wand of what I can only assume was thunder. She warned us not not go out at night due to purple wyrms, so we decided to stay the night. Worst decision we could have made.

The town was up to something. I didn't know what, but I didn't trust any of them. They spent the evening staring at us. I wanted to suggest we post watch, but half of us decided to go out to the car to sleep. I was thinking of going with them, but I didn't want to leave Bowen and Nin alone.

Turns out the town was the least of our concerns. A wyrm attacked the outside group. We almost slept right through it, but thankfully Bowen's dog caught wind of it and woke us up. It was hard to see in the dark, but it was definitely a wyrm. Bowen acted first, casting... something. I don't know what it was supposed to be, but I'm sure teleporting the thing into the middle of town was not the intended result. Seems the storm wall was messing with everyone else's magic, too. I decided to risk it anyway, and got lucky. Zapped the thing to death. Seemed easy, but apparently Gorudak had gotten eaten by it and pretty much eviscerated it from the inside. Go him.

Three lessons were learned tonight:
1. Don't split up to camp.
2. Don't drive at night.
3. Don't eat Gorudak.
